Adult Sailing Program 2016

This summer Dartmouth Yacht Club is offering an adult learn to sail program aboard a 36' sloop.  The course, taught by a Sail Canada certified instructor will teach basic sailing skills with an emphasis on seamanship and safety. This course will be taught in two parts (A & B) and upon completion of both, you will be awarded the Canadian Yachting Association's Basic Cruising Standard, the objective of which is to develop sufficient skills "to be able to cruise safely in familiar waters as both skipper and crew of a sloop rigged keelboat of 6 to 10 metres in moderate wind and sea conditions by day".

Basic Cruising Part A will teach terminology, safety procedures, and vessel handling under both sail and power. Basic Cruising Part B will expand on the skills learned in Part A. Students will learn about anchoring, navigation, reducing sail and man overboard recovery. Each session will be taught in one evening lecture and one weekend (Saturday and Sunday) of on the water, hands-on, practical lessons. Classroom sessions will run from 6:30 to 9:30 pm on weekdays and the practical sessions will be from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Basic Cruising Part A and Basic Cruising Part B are each $295.00 for DYC members and $315.00 for non-members. Course fees are subject to an additional 15% HST and the price includes reference materials.

Part A:  Tuesday August 23, Saturday August 27,  and Sunday August 28.

Part B - Tuesday September 13, Saturday September 17, and Sunday Septmber 18.
