Honouring History on the Water
Dartmouth Yacht Club and the Convoy Cup Foundation are proud to host HRM’s premier ocean racing weekend. Founded over 20 years ago by Steinar Engeset and past commodore Jim Jerram, the Convoy Cup Foundation works to preserve the memory of Halifax’s vital role in the convoy lifeline to Europe during World War II — and to honor the courageous men and women of the merchant marine, navy, and air force.
As the memories of the Battle of the Atlantic fade with time, DYC and the Convoy Cup Foundation remain committed to keeping this history alive for the next generation and beyond.
September 6–7, 2025
This year’s Convoy Cup Weekend features an expanded format:
- Commemorative Sailpast — Open to all Sail NS member clubs, along with power and sailboats from across Nova Scotia. Join us as we pay tribute to those who served, with a special formation passing HMCS Sackville.
- Coastal Races — Two coastal race options: a 25 NM daylight race and a 50 NM challenge likely finishing after dark.
- Veterans’ Cup Regatta — A dedicated race day in the Bedford Basin, where WWII convoys once mustered before heading to sea.
With awards, camaraderie, BBQs, and entertainment back at DYC, this is more than a regatta — it’s a community tradition honoring service and sacrifice.
Junior Sailors — The Bamse Cup
Connected to the Convoy Cup tradition, the Bamse Cup Regatta for junior sailors returns July 30–31, 2025 — helping share this legacy with the next generation.
