Dartmouth Yacht Club and the Convoy Cup Foundation are proud to host and coordinate HRM’s premier ocean race! The Convoy Cup Foundation was founded over 20 years ago by Steinar Engeset and past commodore Jim Jerram in order to preserve the memory of the historical contribution of the port of Halifax to the convoy lifeline to Europe during World War II. We also commemorate the courageous men and women of the merchant marine, navy, and air force.
As the memories of the Battle of the Atlantic and World War II sink further into the past, Dartmouth Yacht Club, and the Convoy Cup Foundation, are dedicated to making this important part of our history accessible to the latest generation and all generations to come.
On the weekend of September 7 and 8, 2024 we will once again muster for an incredible weekend of sailing and community building. This year’s event returns to our roots and features not only the popular ocean race, but also includes the re-introduction of of a race day in the Bedford Basin – where the convoys formed and deployed from during WWII. In addition to these exciting race events, dress your boat and join us for a spectacular sailpast of the HMCS Sackville. Power and sailboats welcomed!
Connected to Convoy Cup is also the Bamse Cup – a sailing regatta for junior sailors to be held in August.
Convoy Cup Ocean Race (September 7-8)
The coastal ocean race features a 100nm race starting in Halifax Harbour, out to Cross Island and back. As this is an offshore race of significant distance, please check the Notice of Race for vessel safety requirements.
Registration Fee: $50 before September 6th, $60 for late registrations
Convoy Cup Basin Regatta (September 7)
An accessible inshore regatta day on the Bedford Basin, returning for 2024 to complement the challenging ocean race – no additional offshore safety requirements!
Registration Fee: $30 until Sept 1, $40 for late registrations
Convoy Cup Commemorative Sailpast (September 8)
Join us for a ceremonial sailpast of the HMCS Sackville. Power, sail, and human powered boats welcome. Let your colours fly!
Registration Fee: None!
